To strengthen our Science, Engineering and Technology and Mathematics education, the STEM team visited Lok Sin Tong Yu Kan Hing Secondary School on 25th October, 2017 . It is hoped that through this visit, we would be able to develop mutual cooperation between our STEM partners and further strengthen our students’ creativity and new ideas, as well as the ability to synthesize and apply their knowledge and skills.
On 25th October 2016, a talk concerning the potential risks of part time jobs was delivered by the Association for the Rights of Industrial Accident Victims in the Lecture Theatre during the Assembly Period. Ms. Elsie Fung, Organizer of the Association, told our students about different types of risks in part time jobs and reminded our students to avoid these accidents and to protect their rights in case of accidents.
On 25th October 2017, our school social workers provided a sex education talk to our S.3 students in the classroom during the assembly period. The theme of the activity was “Love”. Through videos and case studies, our social workers discussed with our students the consequences of premarital sex and accidental pregnancy, which included the responsibility of life, economic issues and family relationships.
On 25th October 2017, S.2 students stayed in the library during the assembly period for a talk concerning life planning. Through a series of games and discussions, students understood the value of life and how to make choices that affect their future.
On 25th October 2017, S1 Students went to the Design & Technology Room to attend a Life Planning lesson delivered by a social worker from Tung Wah under the “MY WAY” programme. Through video viewing, case analysis and discussion, our students understood more about themselves. The programme was interesting and our students were very active in answering questions.

Students attended the ‘Microsoft Coding Workshop’, namely ‘Minecraft Hour of Code Designer’ organized by the HKSAR Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) In the workshop, students were led by the tutor of the workshop to take the characters Steve and Alex on an adventure through the Minecraft world with lines of code, and meanwhile experience the fun of coding! Most of our students were new to coding, so they listened carefully to the instructions of the tutor and started their journeys of learning coding. All of them played the very popular video game and were motivated to learn the skill of using coding to instruct the main characters, Steve and Alex, to get to their destinations. They learned something to solve the problems they encountered. Most of them got the certificate of completion at the end of the workshop. They told the teacher that they were inspired by the power and usefulness of coding. On 19th October 2017, Our staff Mr. Wong Shing Kin served as a guest speaker of the staff development of Po Leung Kuk Lo Kit Sing (1983) College. He shared the experience of how to use e-learning element in learning and teaching of Liberal Studies.
The School Prefect and Student Union Inauguration Ceremony was held in the assembly period on 16th October 2017. The opening speech was delivered by our Acting Principal, Mr. Yuen Wai Tong. He expressed his congratulations to the new Prefects and Student Union together with his hope that all of them would be capable of demonstrating the essential attributes of a good student leader. After the speech, there was a badge presentation for the Student Union Members, House Captains, their Committee members, the Head Prefects, Vice Head Prefects and Prefects of the Departments. They came from departments including the Board of Studies, ECA, MI & Gifted Education, Guidance, Careers Guidance and Discipline. All of the student leaders will serve our school in their designated areas and will be provided with training to demonstrate their team skills and showcase their leadership potential. After presenting the badges to the prefects, the 2016-2017 former Chairperson of the Student Union delivered his vote of thanks to the students for their support. The new Chairperson then expressed his gratitude to the students and promised to fulfill the pledge he had solemnly made during the election.
It is good to hear that our Student, 4B Chiu Kei Chun obtained an outstanding result in the JLPT N2 test. She is due to receive the certificate in July. JLPT stands for “Japanese Language Proficiency Test” (日本語能力試験 Nihongo NōryokuShiken) and is administered in Japan by the Ministry of Education and overseas by the Japan Foundation. The JLPT is an internationally known test, held worldwide, to evaluate and certify the proficiency in Japanese of non-native speakers. The test has been held since 1984. In 2017 JLPT will be offered in July and December in Hong Kong. We hope that he redouble his efforts to tackle the new challenge of passing the Level N1 next year.
