On 22nd November 2017, S.2 to S.6 students gathered in the school hall attending the talk organized by the Buildings Department. There was a video, a talk, and a game for the students. Through the talk, students understood basic concepts about building safety and they realized that they should take care of the condition of the buildings they use to protect themselves as well as their families.
Christmas brings joy to the world. It also reminds everyone there should be no discrimination against race, sex, nationality and social status. To arouse the attention of students to those in need, the Student Union held a Casual Wear for Charity activity. Students were permitted to return to school in casual wear instead of school uniforms if they were willing to pay ten dollars. The money would then be donated to support “Green for Charity”. Through the activity, students learned to share their joy with other people and be thankful for what they already possess. To take part in this meaningful event, students were obliged to follow the following school regulations: 1. Dress code: clothes had to be plain and of a simple style. 2. For girls, knee-length dresses are preferred --- It should be 10 cm or less above the knee with black tights and no pantyhose allowed. 3. No short pants or slippers were allowed. 4. No accessories, ornaments or hair gel were allowed. 5. School regulations were enforced. 6. Students had to bring along their Student Card & Student Handbook. 7. Students were asked to follow the instructions of the Discipline Department.
To celebrate Christmas, students held their class Christmas parties on 21st December 2017. To be environmentally friendly, students this year promised to reduce the amount of decorations. Even though the decorations were simple, the classrooms were still filled with festive atmosphere. On that day, students gathered early in the morning. They brought with them chicken wings in sweet sauce, salad, sandwiches, cakes and drinks. Even though there was no turkey, the food was delicious and the students were grateful for the work of their Class Committee members. Then they played games together and exchanged Christmas cards and gifts. The party ended and students left with joyful memories.
Music was in the air and the audience was mesmerized on 21st December 2017 in the school hall when we had our Annual Singing Contest 2017-18. Those in the hall were captivated and enjoyed every moment, which was evident by the applause after each performance. Enthusiastic contestants presented delightful pieces in the Solo and Group sections. The Singing Contest aims to encourage students to take part in music performances and activities. It is also a good way to build up self-esteem and develop confidence among S. C. Gawers. Throughout this musical journey, the audience gasped in astonishment at the fluency and competence contestants showed throughout the events. Their musical talent was unbelievable, the range immeasurable. In the Solo section, we were caught in the mellow melodies of 6B Chiu Tsz Ching (再見) whose song impressed the adjudicators most and lead to him becoming the Champion. After the conclusion of the solo section, there was a smooth transition to music by bands in the group section. The song of two girls 6C Lam Wing Tung and Wu Weitong(我不難過) enthralled the audience and made them the champions of the event. Then it was the interclass singing competition in which 6A to 6D joined the competition. The harmony performance of 6B impressed the adjudicators and they were the Champions. The last section was the official performance. We invited The Hong Kong Police Silver Band (香港警察銀樂隊) to come under the programme “Music Touch” (樂韻警聲亮校園). Their professional performance got the applause of all the audiences. Then Mr. Michael Leung (our young practice teacher) gave us a solo performance on his guitar and the entire audience paid attention to his wonderful performance. We must acknowledge the efforts of the Music Department, the Music Club, the Backstage Team, the school photographers, teachers and the janitor staff as well as the Principal and the adjudicators. Without them all, the music event would not have been such a great success.

A time to capture our memories ─ a time to learn and see things together! The School Photo-taking Day was held on 15th December 2017 for all the teachers and students to take group photos together. Students from S.1 to S.6 had their class photos taken in the school hall. In addition, group photos of the staff, teachers, various administrative groups, as well as School Prefect Teams, Uniform Groups, Clubs, and Societies were also taken. Most importantly, it was the day for all S.6 Graduation Classes to have their graduation photos taken. All the students and teachers dressed appropriately and smartly for this occasion. The S.6 big photo featured all S.6 students and the teachers who have taught them in their secondary schooling. All S.6 photos are a moment of their secondary school life and will be cherished in the years to come as they reminisce about their school life at S.C. Gaw. As life-long members of S.C. Gaw family, sweet memories will linger on for them as they live the school spirit under 'A Different Sky of Learning in the Same Compassionate Family'.
